ATU MakerSpace celebrates Traveller Pride Week
Creative workshop taken outdoors

Atlantic Technological University celebrated Traveller Pride Week through a series of on-campus workshops delivered to schools, Further Education and Training (FET) centres, and community groups across the region.

As part of the programme, the MakerSpace at ATU Sligo welcomed participants from Sligo Community Training Centre for an engaging dome-building experience that highlighted the power of teamwork, inclusion, and creativity.

With the sun shining and the dome taking shape, learning moved outdoors as participants worked together to construct a geodesic dome using bamboo spars and custom connectors. The hands-on workshop transformed the courtyard into a vibrant learning environment where collaboration, experimentation, and problem-solving took centre stage.

The activity demonstrated how great teamwork depends on valuing diverse perspectives and creating opportunities for everyone to contribute. By combining individual strengths, participants successfully worked towards a shared goal while developing new skills and confidence.

Reflecting the MakerSpace ethos, the workshop focused not only on the finished structure but on the learning journey itself. Taking the session outside encouraged open conversation, creative thinking, and a strong sense of community.

The event showcased how inclusive, practical learning experiences can inspire curiosity, creativity, and teamwork, proving that sometimes the best classroom has no walls at all.

ATU MakerSpace is funded by Higher Education 4.0 under the Human Capital Initiative (HCI) Pillar 3.
